• We believe that Salvation comes only through the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the only begotten son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried and raised from the dead. That Jesus ascended to Heaven, and is today at the right hand of the Father, as our intercessor.

• We believe that all have sinned and fallen short of Godís glory and that repentance is required by god and is necessary for the forgiveness of sins.

• We believe that baptism by immersion must be in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sin.

• We believe that holiness is Godís standard for living for his people.

• We believe that Jesus Christ provides divine healing through faith as he wills.

• We believe that the Lordís Supper should be commemorated according to the Lordís Word.

The late Reverend Jacob Palmer Posey came to New York City in 1944 and founded Tried Stone Baptist Church on June 29, 1944.  On December 27, 1944, he met with Mr. F.G. Stuart, Secretary of the Franklin Savings, to seek financing in order to build a worship center.  Reverend Posey was able to secure financing through this meeting, which led to the purchased of the current edifice.  The members of Tried Stone Baptist Church proudly marched into the new worship center on Palm Sunday in the year 1945.  Mr. Stuart’s services continued to be a blessing to the late Reverend Posey.  Mr. Stuart set up a meeting with two other bankers, Mr. Smith, Manager of Com Exchange, and Mr. Woursbakk, Vice President of Dollar Savings Bank.

The success of this meeting led to the financial security in the building and maintenance of Tried Stone Baptist Church.  Reverend Posey dutifully served the congregation of Tried Stone and the community at large making its ministry known throughout New York City.  Reverend Posey was faithful to his call and service to Tried Stone up unto his death in 1964.

Soon after the home going of our founder, the late Reverend William Gardner, former Pastor of First Baptist Baptist Church in Astoria Queens, New York, became Tried Stone’s overseer s the official board of Tried Stone began the selection process for a new shepherd.  The selection process was not a long one and ended with the late Reverend Daniel Nickerson who served Tried Stone and the surrounding community for thirty-two years.  The late Reverend Nickerson served until his retirement 1996 and contributed too much of the growth of Tried Stone.  Reverend Nickerson served in various other leadership capacities throughout his pastorate at Tried Stone.  He served as the President of the Ministers Conference for two years and played a key role in separating the Missionary and Nurses Association.  Reverend Nickerson’s commitment and dedication to the congregation and surrounding community was evident throughout his pastorate at Tried Stone.

God smiled down on Tried Stone Baptist Church once again in 1998 when he sent   Reverend Demetrius S. Carolina.  Reverend Carolina is a dynamic spiritual leader and educator.  The church made tremendous progress and exceptional growth through his leadership.  Reverend Carolina was dedicated in serving the surrounding community through spiritual empowerment, economic development and urban justice.

In 2006, once again the Lord blessed Tried Stone with another dynamic pastor.  Reverend Roderick T. Merritt was called to be the fourth pastor of our illustrious church.  Reverend Merritt is committed to empowering God’s people through the Word and empowering our Bronx community with relevant life changing ministry.  The Tried Stone Baptist Church continues to reach new levels as the Lord continues to bestow favor on our church.  We give God all the honor and praise for 64 years of service; and the best is yet to come!!.
